Set Exceptional Goals!

I’ve used positive self-talk my whole career, and I really like the adjective exceptional. It’s a pump-up word. I’m an exceptional salesman. I’m an exceptional presenter. I’m an exceptional coach. Why not use the same pump-up word for goals?

Exceptional goals stretch us. They’re big and hairy — even scary. They’re not run-of-the-mill, anybody-can goals. They drive us, push us, and force us to become the person we need to be to achieve them.

And they must be written. As an early mentor told me: if you don’t write them down, you’re not serious.

Mine is that I change eighty million people’s lives for the better — here and hereafter. I set it long before I had any idea how. Now I know how, and I’m more pumped than ever.

Key takeaway

Stop setting goals. Set exceptional goals — written down, in your face, all in.

The gap between where you are and where you want to be is real. So is the path to closing it. If you're ready to do something about it, we'd like to talk.
