Trainability!
It takes many things to be successful. Concentrate on just one: trainability — the ability to assimilate new information, test it in your world, and learn what works and what doesn’t.
Most people don’t really want to change. Change is difficult, frightening, uncomfortable. But if we want to grow, we must change — and that change will be constant, fast, and furious.
A speaker put it well: you must challenge bad ideas, of course, but you must challenge good ideas even more. We habitually defend our own thinking. That isn’t going to make us better.
Instead of avoiding the hard conversations you need to have with others, first learn to have hard conversations with yourself. You’ll think more effectively, question more deeply, and develop the empathy the job demands.
Be trainable. Challenge your good ideas even harder than your bad ones.
The gap between where you are and where you want to be is real. So is the path to closing it. If you're ready to do something about it, we'd like to talk.
