The Power of Weak Ties!

Our relationships consists of strong and weak ties. Strong ties are the people we know well. We see them frequently, close family, friends, co-workers, close business associates.

Weak ties on the other hand, are people we interact with occasionally or less. As counterintuitive as is it may sound, it’s the weak ties who open up a whole new world. They are our best source for new ideas, information, and opportunities. When prospecting, reach out to your weaker ties.

Why? Your weak ties hang in different circles of people, in different places, and different industries. They have knowledge of opportunities within those groups that you and your strong ties don’t. They’re aware of the needs and desires within their circles, just as you are within yours.

It’s counterintuitive but impressive, and on further reflection, it certianly makes sense. We live in a big world and your weaker ties are positioned with, and know a whole different set of people, of circumstances, of opportunities. If they existed in your normal social circle you'd probably already be aware of them.

Take ethical advantage of your existing relationships. Reach out to people you don’t talk to so often and discover a world of opportunity you never knew existed!
