What are we trying to accomplish? What are the numbers,? What are you keeping track of? So you & everyone knows what to focus on.
If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it. I’ll repeat, if you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it. To succeed in any endeavor, you must keep score.
When I measure my activity (and keep that measurement in my face), my results improve. Guaranteed. When I don’t measure it, I fail, I always come up short.
Let’s stick to the basics: keep track of results, see what’s working and what’s not, and adjust your plan based on that feedback…then continue to measure your progress!
Think about your new hires. How should you measure them before they’re truly able to perform the job they were hired for? Simple. Their attitude and activities! I let them know what that means.
Attitude: showing up early, working late, cooperating with co-workers. Activities: attend trainings, complete their assignments, fill out my one-page report.
Define what you expect from them. By when. It allows you to measure their progress. You’ll be able to manage them better, praising them when they’re on track, and course-correct when they’re off.
The moral of the story: if you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it!
